Nick Papaspyropoulos
Nikos Papaspyropoulos was born in Athens, Greece. He started learning guitar in the age of 11 at the " Hellinic " conservatory. He continued to experiment with no teacher on classical, acoustic and electric guitar and his love the bass guitar. He performed with various bands rock & dancing music.
When M. Merkouri revived the rock concerts in Greece back in the 80’s, he played bass guitar with K. Kalimeri (producer and sound engineer now) rock music with Greek lyrics. In the 90’s, he played repertoire of the 80’s : Simple Minds, Cure, D. Bowie, Echo & the B., OMD , Blondie, Stranglers etc.
In 1991, his passion for the classical guitar made him to begin the studies again. Some years later he quits his job and he devotes him self to this instrument. Today, he is professor of classical guitar at the National Conservatoire & at the Music School “Sylfides” in Athens.
He studied guitar with the guitarist & composer A. Papavasileiou and graduated with A perfect in 1998. In 2003, he receives his diploma in Harmony with the same teacher from the National Conservatoire. In 2006, he graduated with A perfect from the class of E. Boudounis and finished his studies in classical guitar with the Diploma.
He performed solo works by A. Papavasileiou in various halls in Athens. He performed with S. Agelou works for guitar duo & solo in Athens and Crete and with the violinist E. Kiseliova at the Castle of the island Naxos. The repertoire included composers like A. Dvorzak, M. de Falla, A. Corelli, J.S.Bach, F. Chopin, A.Piazzola, E.Grieg and others. Between 2004 – 2008, he performed with the orchestra “The Guitarists” in two CD’s : “Libertango – Live at the Odeon of Herod Atticus” and “Historia de un Amor” with M.Fragoulis (tenor) E.Zervou(soprano) and E. Boudounis (guitarist, composer and conductor) labeled by “Eros music“. The repertoire of the CD’s was presented except the Odeon of Herod Atticus, at the Megaron of Music, at the Pallas theater, at Santorini, Kifisia, Penteli and other places in Greece. In 2008, he performed with the singer and composer T. Manolidou in “Athenais” and in the Goulandris museum where her new CD was presented with songs of M. Plessa and other composers.
Furthermore , in 2009 he won in the International Competition for Composition organized by the International Art Society and the Foundoulis Music School in Volos, Greece, 2nd , 3rd Prizes and 1st Commendation in the categories of pop – rock, funk-rock and solo instrument, respectively (“Flying away”, “All that Funky” and “Nocturne”.
In 2010, he won again at the same competition 3rd prizes for the instrumental piece Rocking tribute, and the song Moons of memory.
He was a member of Compass, a band that peformed alternative rock: Nikos Papadimitriou cello, Andromahie Doriza clavier, NP electric & acoustic guitar guitar – vocals and Panos Tsorotiotis vocals – acoustic guitar.
In 2009 he worked with the singer E. Papadea and the cellist C. Kazaglis in a common appearance with the band of Loudovic of Anogeia.
He wrote music for two theatrical plays ” Lovers on a kanvas” and ” The sleeping beautifull” (childrens’ play) in 2011 and 2012, respectively. The last was still performed in 2014. The works were/are presented in the theatrical scene Δια Δύο in Athens.
In 2011 he performed with the orchestra concertante ” Metatropia” songs and music of M. Xatzidakis at the Ionian feasts in N. Smyrne, Athens.
In the winter season of 2012 & 2013 his band CRYSTAL, presented music from cinema and some of his instrumental compositions at Cabaret Voltaire.
Still, in June 2014 he performed live works for solo guitar by D. Scarlatti, J.S.Bach, A. Lauro, V.Lobos, R. Dyens and some of his own works. Also, he performed with V. Douka (guitar) works by Marcello, Assad, York and with N. Papadimitriou (cello), two of his favorite parts from the work "Trilogy".
